I grew up in the Transkei, along South Africa’s eastern coastline. It was there that I developed a keen interest in wildlife. In 1999 I moved to northern Botswana and joined Wilderness Safaris as a field guide. Today I lead photographic safaris for Wilderness Safaris and spend around 300 days a year in the Okavango Delta and Linyanti region.
I am very interested in digital photography and my work has been published in magazines such as Africa Geographic, Africa Birds and Birding and National Geographic Kids Magazine. Whilst leading safaris I always try to help get the most out of wildlife viewing opportunities by combining my experience of animal behaviour with a strong sense of anticipation.
In Botswana, I am actively involved in monitoring lion populations in the private concession areas that are operated by Wilderness Safaris. I also contribute regular items of interest to the unusual sightings section of Wilderness Safaris website.
I am a competent birder and have a particular interest in birds of prey.
Southern Africa is an extremely rich area for wildlife, with an amazing diversity of habitats and species and I have visited many of the region's wild places. I have also been fortunate enough to travel abroad in search of wildlife, and have visited Alaska, the Galapagos islands, and India over the past few years.
I combine my strong interest in photography with my passion for wildlife and wild places and spend much of my free time in remote locations.
Let's hope it gets good ones soon!
